This Belleek Ornament is called the Ballycopeland Windmill found in County Down and is the only remaining functioning Windmill in Northern Ireland.  With a typical stone tower, the Windmill was built in the 1780's.  Powered by the wind from its sails, there are three pairs of millstones found on the ground floor for making wheatmeal, shelling and grinding grain into oatmeal which was an important source of food through the First World Warh.  The Windmill was restored to working order in 1978 and now houses a visitor centre.  Designers at Belleek have created a beautiful 3.75" ornament embossed with gold and a lucky shamrock on the reverse to resemble the Ballycopeland Windmill.
